My late father in law was a combat veteran that served in Vietnam in the infantry. He never talked about the war, but once told me that Platoon was the closest movie that he'd ever seen to what it was actually like over there. He passed away earlier this year. All the Agent Orange shit they sprayed over there gave him liver problems.

Well, Israel just pulled off a hostage rescue and didn't lose a hostage but unfortunately lost a soldier. There was entebbe also which Israel rescued all the hostages and lost 1 soldier. I'm not really making a comparison, I actually think it's more hand of God than skill. I'm certainly not doubting the skill and professionalism of the tier 1 units from US and UK

In 1989 my Drill Instructors said some of the same stuff that you hear in this movie. My drill Instructor said if their language was offensive then go fuck yourself and tell your mom if she doesn't like it fuck her too. Moms had got on a kick in the 80's about boot camp language. According to former SAS guys who took part in this raid they have stated publicly that the film is wildly inaccurate in just about every way. Shame as it had some good actors and filmed well.

"SAS Iranian Embassy Siege Documentary Operation Nimrod" has interviews with the hostages, with the SAS operators. That is one of the best telling of the true story I know of. Gas masks were part of the operation because they heavily gassed the embassy as part of the attack. In the UK in 80's the UK lacked anything like SWAT teams - it was not problem we had. Since this, and with the increase in terror attacks it has grown significantly - as seen with the London Bridge/Borough Market terror attack in 2017 - the 3 attackers shot dead within 8 minuets of the alarm going out.

From the many accounts published on the “incident” ……. Two of the enemy combatants tried to escape with the prisoners, one was shot as depicted in the film, the other was discovered outside with the other prisoners, the Troopers recognised him and were about to take him back into the building to let him be with his former colleagues BUT the hostages actually tried to lay on him and said he’d actually been respectful and more humane than the others…….. so they let him live ! A lesson for you all …….. don’t be a c#nt to people and it could save your life !!!!

Im an old white d for the squad(usually 3 guys2 of us and wait ude(74), and served on a NAVY pbr (river patrol boat,"brown water navy"), we did SEAL insertions,extractions,and other stuff. My favorite weapon system was (ansd STILL is), a claymore. 3 pumps on the clacker.....and ya got action. We used them on the river perimeters, when we h....but dont get them too close because the backblast was also deadlyad to stay overnight,backed up inside a mangrove,waiting for a SEAL squad. Sometimes we had to disembark,because they had an injured teammate,or one other personnel(dont ask). LOVE the claymores!!!!! Instant kick ass
